Don has been a landlord for over 12 years with rental properties in the UK and abroad. He has been a Member for over 11 years, gaining Accreditation and joining the Local Representative Team in the West Midlands late in 2011. He became a member of the training team three years later. 

His early career saw him in Human Resources and Development, rising to senior management positions in the retail, licensed trade and motor industry sectors.  

His experience to date has also enabled him to source tenants and manage properties on behalf of a small number of personal clients. 

Don is passionate about meeting the needs of members and promoting landlord professionalism and service excellence in a growing but increasingly challenging private rental market.

Gill, together with her husband have been landlords for over 16 years with a portfolio of B2Ls in South Wales, and a HMO in Greater Manchester supporting transitioning homeless individuals into sustained housing.

They have a refurbishment company, a Property Sourcing company and more recently a small Serviced Accommodation portfolio. They also set up and have been running their own Property networking event for the past 4 years for landlords who invest in Wales specifically so becoming the NRLA’s Welsh Representative is a natural progression for Gill

Gill is extremely proud of her welsh heritage, having been born and brought up in its capital, Cardiff. Her career of over 40 years spans across the Public, private and 3rd Sectors including the BBC, Manpower, the largest Recruitment company in the world and also more recently the CEO of Welsh Women’s Aid, the Welsh Domestic Abuse umbrella organisation.

With a passion for Equality, Gill was instrumental in setting up the first ever Nursery in the BBC and also campaigned for subtitles on TV. During her time with Manpower she set up and developed their Welfare Reform division supporting a wide range of unemployed jobseekers and benefit claimants. Her career has seen her work across the length and breathe of Wales, helping her to understand the regional differences and challenges that local landlords face.

Married with four grown up children and 5 grandchildren, she is a trustee of several charities and a member of her church council.

Hannah has been living and working in Cornwall and Devon within the housing market for over 15 years. Originally from London, she trained in antiques, working as a valuer for Bonhams Auctioneers. A move to Cornwall meant moving to working in the estate agency and holiday lettings sector. 

Working as an NRLA Representative, she organises local branch meetings and also liaises with the local councils and authorities. This involves attending local meetings about issues regarding social and private rented sector housing and being the nose on the ground for any changes or issues which would affect the local private rented market. 

She is an accredited landlord through the NRLA, and is interested in talking to and meeting local landlords and associations to ensure they are aware of the services available to them.

She covers the following regions in the South West: Plymouth, Exeter, Newton Abbot, Tiverton - Mid Devon, Truro.

Ilona has a real passion for property and turning challenges into success stories. She enjoys hunting down the right investment and delivering projects on time and on budget. She values her analytical skills and sense of timing in her professional career, and builds strong, lasting relationships within her network. 

Ilona has more than 13 years’ professional development and experience working in residential and commercial property. This has taught her that a pragmatic outlook and willingness to walk in someone else’s shoes can help her adapt to the needs of her clients, while delivering on promises.

Joanne is married with two children.  She has been brought up within the property industry as both of her parents were also landlords.  After achieving her dream of becoming a Regional Manager for a major high street bank, Joanne ‘retired’ from the day job in 2008 to allow herself time to concentrate on her two children and her ever-growing property portfolio.  

She enjoys being a landlord as she gets to meet so many different people and help make a difference to their lives.  She joined the NRLA as she could find it quite lonely, especially when faced with a challenge.  The NRLA Advice Line has been worth twice the cost of her membership already and she’d recommend it to any landlord to ensure  they’re handling situations the right way!

John has been a property investor and accredited landlord for the last 25 years and an NRLA representative member for four and a half years. He has extensive knowledge and experience of the private rented sector and is a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Housing with a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Business. 

In addition to managing & developing his own property portfolio, John has worked in the supported housing sector since 2005 and runs his own landlord consultancy helping landlords to maximise the potential of their property businesses. 

John is passionate about health and fitness and enjoys sports and taking part in outdoor activities with his friends and family.

Following 30 years marketing and events management experience across Government, BBC and international charities, Karen left a campaign director role in April 2016 to become a full time property investor/developer. She's bought and managed numerous residential property projects over the past 20 years - including properties requiring extensive re-modelling and major refurbishment. She loves the transformation from wreck to home!

In 2017 Karen launched The Ethical Landlady, an independent lettings and property management agency because she wanted to provide a high quality bespoke lettings service to landlords in London and the south east. Karen and her partner have a small portfolio of buy to lets across a number of London local authority areas. She enjoys meeting other landlords, sharing learning and experiences and talking all things property. In her spare time, Karen enjoys rowing on the River Thames, a glass of wine and walking her Cockerpoo, Rafa on Wimbledon Common.

She primarily covers the following London Boroughs: Kingston, Richmond, Wandsworth, Merton, Sutton, Lambeth, Croydon, Southwark, Lewisham, Greenwich, Bromley and Bexley.

Lesley has lived and worked in the Hornsea area since 1977. She has 30 years experienced in the banking sector, including 10 years as a bank manager. 

Lesley has been a landlord operating within East Yorkshire since 2009, and manages portfolios for clients, as well as her own. She also manages her husband’s and his business partner’s property letting company based in Hornsea - Quorum Property Services. Lesley has experience of dealing with all categories of tenants including those in receipt of Universal Credit. 

She feels that being a member of a professional association is important for landlords at this time. The implications of not planning for changes to regulations or complying with new laws can have huge consequences on a landlord’s business.

Liz has been a landlord in London and the South East for over 20 years. She cannot resist a renovation project and, when not working, much of her time is spent in an ongoing battle with the weeds in her garden. 

Liz has always had an interest in public policy and believes private landlords play a vital role in providing choice and flexibility for people who need to rent a home. As a Representative for the NRLA, she is able to help landlords keep up to date with legislation and policy, and to network with other landlords. By renting out well-managed and legally compliant properties, landlords can mitigate the risks to their own business and do what is needed to keep their tenants safe and in the property for longer. Liz believes the NRLA is also a bit like an insurance policy; it is there to help when things go wrong so landlords can get advice to help them take the correct action, and sort out any problems as soon as possible.

Marion represents the NRLA in the South East, as well as managing her own properties. She has been a landlord since 1974, and has a portfolio of both commercial and domestic properties. 

In her role as NRLA Representative, Marion is able to use her extensive experience to share information on best practice and implementing legislation.  Marion believes it's an important part of her role to keep landlords informed and to represent their interests to local councils and legislators - landlords are dealing with someone's home and the focus on this must not be lost.  She is very active in arranging landlord events, forums and information evenings. 

Marion sits on the Kent Housing Board and is vice chair of the subgroup focusing on the Private Rented Sector. She sees her role as keeping the Boards focused on issues affecting private landlords.

Melvin has a background in procurement and contract management within the financial services sector and is a full time property professional with over 12 years experience as an accredited landlord. He has a portfolio comprising both single lets, student HMO’s and, more recently, serviced accommodation. 

He has developed most of his portfolio using the refurb-to-rent model and along the way has acquired a wealth of experience in refurbishment and construction which he continues to apply his portfolio. He is a qualified domestic electrician, a skill he uses mainly for his own properties and those of friends and associates. 

Melvin is also a Trainer with the NRLA and has presented the NRLA Safer Homes & PAT courses to hundreds of members over the past three and a half years. In his free time Melvin enjoys sailing with his wife both in the UK and abroad.

Mike has been a member for four years and has been a landlord since 2015. Following a 30-year career in construction materials, Mike is now one of two directors of a Bristol-based property investment company, has invested substantially in his own property-based education. He is an enthusiastic attendee at many of Bristol’s property networking events. 

Now focused on growing a portfolio of high-quality professional co-living homes, Mike has joined as one of the south west NRLA Representatives in order to support other landlords by helping them to stay informed; work within the appropriate guidance and legislation, and maximise the efficiency of their portfolios.

Richard buys and refurbishes properties and manages his own portfolio across six London boroughs.  Originally from a dance and theatre background and an HR and diversity specialist, Richard has been a landlord for 20 years.  He has a keen interest in financing and development, landlord and tenant relations, and general housing policy.  Richard has a strong commitment to improving the private rented sector; organises and speaks at events across London and supports NRLA media campaigns. 

He writes regularly for Property Investor News, presents the NRLA Podcast ‘Listen Up Landlords’, and regularly features on Discovery property show ‘House Hunters International’ broadcast initially in the USA and then globally.

Richard primarily covers North, East and Central London Boroughs including Barking and Dagenham, City of London, Hackney, Havering, Islington, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Camden, Haringey, Waltham Forest and Westminster.

Rob became a landlord in 2006 and from the outset wanted to provide decent, affordable property to his tenants. It was a steep learning curve and being a member of the NLA helped him immensely along that journey. 

He currently has a portfolio in Greater Manchester  and Cheshire of varying types of property, with a diverse range of tenants.  Robs’ motto is “It’s my house but it’s your home”. 

Being an NLA Representative and Trainer, he can hopefully help people in the same position as he was when he started. 

In his spare time Rob has a keen interest in motorbikes as a hobby and travels across Europe once a year with as many weekends away as he can get away with in between!

A solicitor qualified in England and Wales, Ruth has spent over twenty years within the financial services sector, both in private practice and in-house within major international banks in both London and Sydney, specialising in complex financial transactions, regulatory matters and private wealth management.  She’s experienced in landlord and tenant issues, in both the residential and commercial sectors.  

Based these days in Sheffield, she left the law so that she could concentrate on property which she is passionate about. She has over 15 years’ experience as a landlord, and owns a small portfolio of properties in London and the north of England including recently branching out into holiday lets, which she self-manages.  Ruth is also a travel and memoir writer (her other passion) and is often gallivanting off to far flung destinations between her NRLA work.

Ruth covers the entire Yorkshire region including The Humber.

PRS legislation changes so rapidly and the area is so vast, Ruth felt she needed a place which gave her accurate and concise detail. The NLA website, bulletins and magazine gave her that and enabled her to do her job as a landlord better.

Having enjoyed being a member she decided to contribute more by becoming an NLA Representative in April 2012. Since taking up the post, Ruth has contributed to growing membership in the North West by running meetings in locations including Blackpool, Carlisle and Lancaster.  

Ruth mainly rents to working professionals with a range of houses and flats based in North Scotland, Preston and London. She is positive about the private rented sector and feels it offers real opportunities, especially for working mothers like herself. She feels it offers a unique level of flexible working, which enables her to be a parent and manage her portfolio.

Sandra is married with children and lives in Shropshire. Previously a secondary school deputy headteacher and national teacher trainer, she now works part time in a local school and has an active role as Chair of Governors in her local primary school.  

Sandra has a range of single lets, flats and HMOs in the Midlands, Scotland, and Wales, which she manages when she’s not teaching. Joining the NLA and becoming an accredited landlord was one of the first things Sandra did when she began working in property. She believes that in a minefield of social media and constant policy changes, she needed to feel secure that she was an effective and efficient landlord. Membership has been absolutely crucial for her in reducing the worry that being a landlord can bring.  In her spare time, Sandra loves to travel, run, and read. 

She covers the following areas: Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley.

Susan has been a landlord for over 30 years and has gained a wide experience whilst managing her diverse portfolios of buy to let properties.  

Susan became a representative in the South East for the NRLA in 2007. Susan chairs landlord forums, speaks at public events, organizes NRLA branch meetings and works with many Councils in the interest of landlords. 

Susan’s career started as a conveyancing solicitor, managing a conveyancing department in London. She worked for the Law Society as an examiner/marker in property. Susan worked in Saudi Arabia for the Royal Saudi Households until 2004. Since returning, she lectures and teaches between her duties and role as an NRLA Rep, which allows her to follow her passion in residential properties as a landlord. 

She covers the Surrey and West Sussex area.

Teresa has been involved in some way or another with properties since she left home all those years ago when she purchased and fully refurbished her own home. The next decade was spent on a self-build and a major refurbishment to combine six cottages in to one residence. Her interest in properties never waned and she became a professional landlord in 2014. Incidentally, she was an Accredited Landlord with the NRLA the prior to taking on her first tenant! It was important for her to be the best landlord she could be, and she was attracted to the NRLA’s professionalism and support to enable her to do that. There is no doubt about it, being a landlord can be tough at times but knowing that she can call on the NRLA to guide her is very reassuring.

In her spare time Teresa enjoys walking, exercise classes and meditation. She particularly likes foraging in the wild for food and remedies.

After 25 years in the financial services industry, working for banks, building societies, and his own business, in 2008 it was time for a change of direction. Vik moved into the world of property having developed an interest and become a landlord. Now settled in Milton Keynes he has set up his own property management & letting agency, initially to manage his own portfolio but soon expanded offering his services to private landlords in the local and surrounding areas. 

As a member of UKALA, the opportunity arose to become a Local Representative for the NLA and he felt the role would benefit him as a letting agent, and also in return Vik felt his experience would benefit NLA members.

Yvonne became an accidental landlord 20 years ago when she inherited a property and has since grown her portfolio.  As a member of the NRLA, Yvonne grew in confidence as a landlord and now manages not only her own properties, but those of others too.

It was a natural progression that eight years ago Yvonne became a London representative for the NLA and shares her experience with other landlords by promoting the benefits, knowledge and networking opportunities that being a member offers.  She feels that being a landlord can be a lonely experience, therefore being part of an organisation that offers you free advice and up-to-date information is invaluable.
