Guarantor after failed reference

Hi, I have a prospective tenant who put down the holding deposit. The husband is still in the US and failed his reference as he doesn't have a right to rent. But the other prospective tenant wants to carry on, using their dad as a guarantor. I'm feeling nervous about it, even with a guarantor (who I am referencing). Should I just pull out? I'd like to be able to keep the holding deposit if I do, but I'm not sure it will be possible.
